Moving the setup and stock
One very handy back saving piece of equipment is a cart with wheels or dolly or some kind used to transport your goods and setup over a distance. In many cases it is not possible to bring the vehicle right up to your spot. We have seen cases where one year the promoter allow vehicles to drive on the grass and the next year they don't.
Even if you were able to have direct access for set up, don't assume some one will not pull a long truck and trailer up, park it in your way, and then casually unload their stock and setup.
In such cases you have at least 3 options.
1. Confront them and cause a big rhubarb.
2. Wait for them to finish.
3. Begin moving your stock to or from your remotely located vehicle because you want to get set up sometime this year or you have finished tear down and are ready to pack.
If you choose the option 3 you'll appreciate a good cart to make things easy. Chances are you are fuming at the idea of having to carry your stuff while some dunder head is blocking the access. Why drive your blood pressure up more by making many trip after trip when it is easier to make just a few trips using a loaded cart?
By the way if you are one of those people who bring your vehicle up before you are ready to pack, stop it. It is really annoying to wait while you take your time to tear down and pack when we are already to pack. Some shows will not allow you to bring your vehicle up until you are torn down and ready to pack, and we feel like more shows should adopt this policy.
If the show is an indoor show at a gymnasiums or interior room you can be sure that the goods and setup will need to be humped in. And in some cases up and over steps.
We have seen everything from 2 and 4 wheel hand carts to simple plywood platforms with castors and a rope to pull. Again, look and see what others are using. Some shows offer help moving in and out, especially school groups looking to raise money. It is customary to tip helpers or donate to the cause.
*Tip...
We use our light weight shelve sections to form litters for transporting a number of smaller or light items as a group. Just pile the item on and one person takes the front while the other takes the back. Team work!
